Car sellers: please be very careful not to part with your
vehicle before you have full, written confirmation from your bank that any
cheque or money order has cleared. Beware of buyers who send a cheque for
a generous sum and who ask you to use the excess to pay another party for
shipping or similar.
If you think you are being pressurised to pay for shipping (or anything else)
before you have proof that the buyer's cheque has cleared, please e-mail the
editor with details of the buyer. It may also be a good idea to tell your
bank that the cheque may be suspect.
Car buyers: whether you're buying within the UK or from abroad, please do not ask a seller to arrange or pay for shipping or delivery. Please do not pressurise sellers to complete a transaction before your cheque has cleared. This kind of behaviour, unfortunately, has been the basis of wide-ranging scams.
